stuartcw on A Salon food blogger writes about eating horse meat in Mongolia. Ever tried it — cooked or as basashi — in Japan?

Basashi with soy sauce and ginger is great. In the UK, at least, eating horse is taboo. It's thought to be only good for dog food but actually it doesn't taste much different to raw beef. I think it became a taboo food because in the past, if a farmer ate his horse he was probably desperate for food. Without a horse he wouldn't have a beast of burden to pull a plough or transport to go to market. Thus it became synonymous with the last food that you would want to eat. It's not that commonly available but you do see it occasionally on an Izekaya menu. I ate Chicken Sashimi salad once at a dinner with In-Laws. Now, that really felt like something you shouldn't eat. Predictably, I got terrible food poisoning and was sick for days later. Noone else who ate the chicken was affected at all...

Is your MacBook trackpad button getting hard to press?
http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/d3fll/is_your_macbook_trackpad_button_getting_hard_to/
For several months I noticed that my MacBook was getting more and more sluggish. I'd click on something and it wouldn't respond. I also noticed that sometimes the mouse would click, especially when typing just by tapping on the case near the bottom of the keyboard and not on the button itself. Finally, the button got to the point where it was locked on. Yesterday, I found the cause and found 4 people I know with the same problem. While looking for the serial number I noticed that the battery was slightly swollen and on booting without the battery all of the above problems are gone! The swollen battery pressing up on the underside of the trackpad button was. That was the cause! submitted by stuartcw to apple [link] [comment]
